This week I am reading...

Reviews of APATHY

Scarlet Blackwell has captured the essence of true love. Two people who are meant only for each other, and who manage to be apart are a painful pair indeed, and Kristian is at the mercy of his pain and loss.

Rating: 5 out of 5 HEARTS

Apathy by Scarlet Blackwell is a very short novella at only twenty five pages, but it is packed with such intense emotions. This book shows us that we can’t help who we fall in love with, and sometimes, you just have to let yourself love, and not care what others think.

This is a story about stubborn foolish misplaced reactions. There’s more than a large helping of loss. But dessert comes in the form of second chances.

At moments, my indecision and failed attempts at love reminded me so much of Kristian I thought Ms. Blackwell wrote this story about me.

Reviews of LIFE CLASS

I enjoy the way Scarlet Blackwell writes a book. This is the second one I have picked up and both books have had compelling and complicated characters that rang true. I can feel her characters and get emotionally attached to them. They aren’t perfect. They don’t make the right decisions all the time. In this book Ryan, a straight painter’s model/gigolo struggles so hard to understand himself without really trying to understand himself. I know so many men and boys that try to shortcut their emotions like this.

I closed LIFE CLASS with a sense of satisfaction and the slight disappointment that it was over. That hasn’t happened to me in a long time.

Reviews of JUST DESSERTS

This is one of the funniest romances I’ve read in a long time.  The characters have a sharp, naughty wit that they use like master warriors.

Just Desserts is awash in layer upon layer of sensuality and flavours, so much so that I couldn’t tell where one left off and the other began....Pick up a copy of Just Desserts – you won’t regret it. Highly recommended.

Reviews of AND SO IS LOVE

Scarlet Blackwell has created two amazing characters and set them in one of the most difficult situations a human can find themselves in...Read the story and you’ll love it as much as I did.

Rating: 4 1/2 out of 5 kisses

I’ll begin simply by saying I loved this story. Dane and Bailey are two complex well-developed characters...The story gives us a glimpse of the social injustices that inmates face, but it also showed how love can be formed even under less ideal circumstances. I hope to read more from this fantastic author in the near future.

Reviews of SECOND HELPINGS

Scarlet Blackwell has scored another hit with Second Helpings, the second release in her new Table for Two trilogy. It’s a humorous and fast paced look into the quirky and often volatile relationship of new lovers Luc and Daniel....There are many pleasant moments in this short gem but the one that truly stands up strong and proud is when Daniel confronts his personal demons.

Let me begin by saying I am a huge fan of the first book Just Desserts and the second in the series was no exception. I love Miss Blackwell’s writing and I enjoy her imperfect characters a lot. Second Helpings offers up a great sequel and stays true to the main characters, delights with great humour and sizzling sex.

Reviews of ANTHOLOGY VOLUME 1

...
Through the use of characters who each embody our own strengths and weaknesses, Anthology (Volume One) examines the difference between what it means to be alone and to be lonely. It explores the wants and needs, the thoughts and desires, the black and the white, and the sometimes gray area of love, sensuality, and desire, and does so in stories that range from fabulous to outright stellar...

Reviews of HALF A MAN

When I pick up a book by Scarlet Blackwell, I’m not looking to find sunshine and roses and lovers wandering off into the sunset together. Instead, I’m looking for something a little more raw, a story on the dark and slightly gritty side that is a romance nevertheless. Ms. Blackwell’s novella Half a Man delivers this particular brand romance with a story about two men who find love in post-World War One England.

Ms. Blackwell’s stories are not tear-jerkers, but she does captures deep emotion in her writing. Happiness does not come easy for her heroes. They usually must struggle through some pretty heavy emotion – pain, sorrow, and betrayal – before finding their way. Ms. Blackwell does an excellent job sharing each character’s angst so that we can feel this struggle on a visceral level. And while this can sometimes seem like a bit of a “downer,” it is exactly what I read this author’s work for – the emotional impact.

Reviews of FINDING EDEN

Finding Eden is a very well-written and character driven love story. Such a gripping and heartfelt story of two men with secrets in their past and a love/hate relationship that is to die for... I highly recommend this book for anyone that loves a very intense romantic love story. Several twists and turns, really hot sex scenes, a little light BDSM , men in uniform, and very well put together characters.  I just swoon for Sean.

Reviews of INFERNO

This is a wonderful novel from Scarlet Blackwell where the characters are as complex as they are interesting.
.. This is one of those books that grip you from the beginning. It pulls you into the complex world of two strong stubborn men and gives you an array of twists and turns you truly don’t see coming and all the while it is feeding us with hot sex, complex characters, an interesting police investigation and two sexy stubborn men. This so didn’t follow the formula that I have got used to in crime stories, I was gobsmacked by some turns of events... The writing, storyline and plot are brilliant.

Reviews of MANBOT

Scarlet Blackwell’s MANBOT is not the amusing little sci-fi piece I was expecting. It is a deeply emotional, beautifully written story that explores what will happen if robots are given emotions... I thoroughly enjoyed this book and hope Ms Blackwell will write more stories in this genre.

Rating: 5 sweet peas

Read more at Mrs Condit Reads Books

Ms. Blackwell’s latest release, Manbot is a fast little read that has one helluva a punch... Ms. Blackwell has created a very emotional plot as the most likely of circumstances happen when a human falls for his robot. While the sex is steaming in this book, I will have to say the emotional uphevel that Gray encounters as he tries to accept his own needs for the forbidden is more fascinating... Ms. Blackwell has built a very strong character in Gray and I thoroughly enjoyed his journey from the beginning stages of his relationship to his final acceptance of it... this little novella is well worth the read, especially if you love a dash of sci-fi with your m/m stories.

Reviews of I AM FALLEN

I will be honest and upfront - this was a one of the most touching, beautiful works I have read in some time.  I spent the last third of the book wiping away tears...
Scarlet Blackwell took two of the most difficult themes of all, death and religion, and created a stunningly simple book that gently cut me open and eviscerated me, tore my heart out and had me in tears.
Utterly devastating

Reviews of SINFUL

Burning up the sheets with scorching hot loving Blake and Io set out to prove that Sinful is a wickedly steamy tale. Loads of erotic encounters are interspersed with deep seated psychological issues that can’t and won’t be easily fixed for either man. Wounded souls attempt to find their own brand of happiness in the highly provocative and unapologetic Sinful.

Reviews of KISS ME

First and foremost, I already know going into most Scarlet Blackwell books that they are not going to be light and fluffy reads. And, if anything, Kiss Me was the complete opposite of a light and fluffy read. But I could not put it down. I was fortunate enough to read with a friend so we were able to say “OMFG” back and forth to each because yeah, it was dark, it was harsh, it was shocking, it was controversial, and it was graphic. Not for the faint of heart, not for those looking for the fairytale, but oh my God, I loved every minute and really, I could not put it down....It wasn’t pretty, it wasn’t easy, and it won’t be for everyone, but it was real. And I will take real any day of the week.

Rating: 4.5 stars

There is definitely something unique about this story... I think what works for this story is that it never plays the soft and dreamy card.  This is a book that is hardcore and gritty.  I can’t imagine anyone saying this is an easy read but it is definitely an emotionally charged one.  This book left me thinking about it for days.  I talked about it with others and even had to go back and reread the end just to find a sense of closure.  I would definitely read more from this author and I almost hope we revisit these characters again.
